In short: very well organised - thoroughly enjoyed it.
In full: I thought this race was great even tho the hills were more than i had thought - i've just never noticed them as i've driven the roads on holiday!! an i really enjoy an evening start.

the marshalling was excellent - i've marshalled on roads with traffic and it's not easy - so well done to all!

I thought the start worked really well being walked forwards - i don't think the organisers can be held responsible for the people who start too far forward, there will always be numpties that do that.

this one is definitely on my list of races to do again. and i'll be ready for those hills next time :-)

In short:nice 10k, evening run makes it different. well marshalled and friendly.

In short:Good race, like last year, though a little cooler

In short:2nd time I've done it and I'd do it again....
In full:Great evening run along the coast, 2nd time of doing it and I thoroughly enjoy it...

In short: Bonkers start and finish
In full: bizarre gathering at the start - still running over the rocks onto grass at the finish (why couldn't such a race finish on the road/pavement?) anyway amrshalls and police and organisers were excellent and the course is great. oh and i nailed a massive pb!!

In short: Good PB course with some decent views as well
In full:Fairly flat course with good views over the bay. Plus, I quite enjoyed racing in the evening!

In short:Undulating 10K
In full:This is done over the same course as the half marathon earlier in the year, there are hills but they are not a problem as long as you respect them. The evening start meant that it had cooled down a lot. There did seem to be a very wide spread of abilities taking part; it would be a good race for novices to do. The organsiers might possibly want to look at arranging the start better, perhaps encouraging the slower runners to go further back - it was quite crowded for the first mile and difficult to get into a rythym. The drink station (passed twice) was well manned. As the previous poster mentioned it probably is quite easy to cheat by doing just one lap of the flat Paignton Green, saving yourself about a mile, but where's the achievement in that?
The course is traffic free on the way out but on the way back you have to run on pavements. This was not too much of an issue as we had thinned out a lot by then. The dated keyring memento was unique and good. I would certainly do this race again if on holiday in Torbay at the same time of year.

In short:Excelent race, but how may only did one lap of Paignton Green????????????????
In full: Great race, done the half marathon here a few times, as I suspect did many others. Half the of the group in front only did one lap of the green at Paignton (as is the case in the half marathon) which is infuriating. Yes they will only be cheating themselves but they were club runners too!!! This opportunity for cheats needs closing by making the race shorter faciltating one lap or longer into Torquay at the finish to make up the distance as it is impossible to marshall. I have done the half marathon before and was expecting only one lap and was slightly confused when I saw the two laps sign as I had seen people head off back to Torquay after only one lap.
The finish could be better marked in terms of a countdown too as I did not realise it was there untl I turned off the road onto the grasy bit and saw the finish line, a marshall at the start had told me the finish was next to the Grand Hotel and thought it was further down. As I was an on the day entrant maybe I missed some details sent out in the race pack?
Still, a great race that I thoroughly enjoyed and loads of helpful organisers too. The weather made up for the dissapointing day in June when the half marathon was a miserable day of rain and drizzle.
See you next year!

2006 reviews

In short:Excellent summer Sunday evening race on the English Riviera
In full: The red arrows had drawn the crowds which meant a slight delay to the race start, but they added to the pre-race atmosphere. For a course that boasts 4 hills it is surprisingly quick, with the 2 x 1 mile laps of deadpan flat Paignton Green giving the chance of putting the pedal down. The last mile is challenging after all that quick stuff. A timing clock at the finish would be a bonus. The adjacent funfair gives other family members a reason for coming to support you and there's no shortage of pubs & eateries in Torquay. Free hot showers at the race HQ complete the feeling of great value for money - heck it's only a fiver!

In short: This was my first ever race which I ran with my daughter, really enjoyed it, the people there were great and the marshalls were supportive all the way. Was well worth travelling from Huddesfield to do! (I was on holiday)

In short: Great race for all
In full: The views of the bays are beautiful (if you dare lift your head up to enjoy them). This was my first ever race, and prep for a half-marathon next month and I (actually) enjoyed it. Lowpoints, the organisation at the start could have been better and pre-race map was not very clear. Highpoints, medals for all finishers and the cheery marshalls who cheered me up the hills (there are a lot as it's basically a coastal cliffside route).

In short: Overall Good value, the finish was a little challenging.
In full: Good evening out combined with the holiday atmosphere. The 2 laps of Paignton green seemed a bit of a drag again! As per the half marathon but also it was difficult to move out of the way of the faster runners on the first lap and negotiate slower runners on the second lap. A good turn out and value for money. The last incline did seem steeper than it actually was.

In short: only scenic if you like roads, pavements and traffic

In short: Fast Course - plenty of support, but start and finish arrangements could be improved (and a clock!)

In short: Best 10k I've run this year. Inclines not as much of a challenge as you might exepct. quite a fast race, in fact. Good crowd and lovely location.

In short: A good run let down by dubious timekeeping and a dangerous finish
Date of review: August 21, 2006

In short: Fantastic race for the minimal entry fee!!
In full: First time i have entered anything after a 13 month lay off due to injury and only 2 and a half months preparation. Cant fault it for the price you pay. Marshalls very friendly good support and this was a fantastic way to welcome me back to running.

In short: Really enjoyed this one . .
In full: . . seems quicker than you'd expect given that there are some gradients. Friendly marshalls and good support on most of the course. Plenty of parking if you get there early enough, and warm showers afterwards too. Thanks to all concerned.
